New Developments

Some interesting new developments at home this weekend, two of them are featured in the photos below:

  • Noa found a creative way to hold her Zuzzies while brushing her teeth. At first I was skeptical about them staying put down the back of her shirt, but she proved me wrong. And yes, they are on.
  • The second, less obvious, is the fact that she is brushing her teeth in the bathroom. Brushing her teeth at the table after dinner is a long-standing habit that we have never been able to break (and we've tried!) but this weekend she just decided to brush her teeth upstairs, and was it. We hope this one sticks!
Another development: Noa agreed to get out of bed in the morning with Daddy (rather than insisting on Mommy.) This is another great development for home life... especially for Mommy's home life!

Noa also did great work at Horsey this week. Last week she really didn't pay attention to directions much (it was windy and she enjoyed that), but this weekend she was more focused.

Purple Zuzzy and Yellow Leaves

Just a short note on this weekend - and with the knowledge that Noa will likely be talking about her Purple Zuzzy this week. Over the pandemic break, we bought Noa a purple vibrating travel pillow which she liked... but it just wasn't sturdy enough for the kind of workout Noa likes to give such things. But she keeps asking for it, so I took a gamble on a neck massager with a vibrating feature which arrived just in time for this past weekend and it was a big hit. You can see it pictured below. As you can see it's not purple....

I used  a purple pen to write "Purple Zuzzy" on it so that it would have some purple on it. It has two handles that she puts her hands through so it stays on her neck.

In other news, it seems that Noa so enjoyed last week's Lunch/Dinner combo that she decided she wanted to do it again. Since we were already behind schedule (it was after 4pm) we went along with her suggestion though I suspect it was mostly a ploy to get to bed earlier so she could have the purple zuzzy again, but it made for a short and easy evening.

I'm also including a photo of Noa at horsey this weekend. All the leaves had turned quite yellow/gold and she seemed to enjoy the wind... but wasn't much interested in following directions. So she had fun.

A Very Special, Special Olympics

Noa had a great long weekend and was in a happy and pretty agreeable (or at least negotiable) mood all weekend.

Saturday Noa participated in the Special Olympics along with the two other families who train at the same stable. For this special, socially distanced Special Olympics, the participants were all filmed and medals will be awarded and mailed after the judges watch all the videos. Of course, Noa wasn't worried about whether or not she got a medal. She was more interested in participating in a special horsey event, and hanging out on the Amish, foot-pedal swing.  It was one of the first times we've seen her wear a button up shirt and really enjoy it (she enjoyed the triangular collars.) She was also really excited about the jacket and didn't want to take it off.

On Sunday we spent most of the afternoon on the road. We went leaf-peeping, and then enjoyed a stroller walk on the Northern Rail Trail. For Noa, it was mostly about enjoying having the windows rolled down.  The great victory of the day was that Noa agreed to eat a lunch/dinner combo meal (she is generally agreeable to brunch, but has never agreed to lunch/dinner before.) There was a bit of negotiating - Noa won five pushes on her spinning swing.
A few other highlights: Noa enjoyed facetiming with Grammy, Uncle Jamie and cousins Electra and Petra on Saturday night and managed to get through all three nights without having an accident (especially impressive because she refused her usual late night potty visit.)

Noa seemed to be interested in initiating conversations this weekend, and sharing her own ideas (rather than just choosing between, or just flat out rejecting, choices.) For example, on Sunday when I asked her if we could put medicine in her ear she signed , "Later, at school."

So all-in-all, a very pleasant long weekend.
